Shadows on the Hudson (Fine Dining - Poughkeepsie, New York)

Recently my family and I were up at Marist in the Poughkeepsie area visiting my brother at college and went to Shadows on the Hudson for dinner. It's a waterfront restaurant right near the campus and pretty much beneath the Mid-Hudson Bridge with spectacular views.

This restaurant is the true definition of a multiple course meal, whether it's three, four, or five, this place is no exception! For my drink, I ordered an 'Espresso Martini,' which I don't think I need to explain what's in that and sounds pretty obvious. This was my first time having an Espresso Martini and it was delicious, to say the least.

There's always a first for everything and this Espresso Martini was a first for me

For an appetizer, my family and I got the 'Buffalo Calamari,' which was breaded calamari with buffalo sauce and a gorgonzola drizzle, and it was incredible! I really can't emphasize enough how obsessed I was with this as the combination of everything was perfect and melted right in my mouth.

This Buffalo Calamari was probably my favorite thing from the whole meal

For my main meal, I got the 'Rigatoni Bolognese,' which was obviously rigatoni with a bolognese sauce. However, it also had romano cheese and a unique twist with balsamic and basil oil, which I thought was interesting and created a surprisingly good balance with the dish.

Now you know I had to order dessert and got the 'Creme Brulee,' and you all know what's in Creme Brulee, this was sweet, amazing and hit the spot after all the other dishes I ate.

The Creme Brulee hit the spot and was the perfect way to end the night

Shadows on the Hudson honestly does it all from lunch, dinner, brunch, and happy hour, as well as hosting weddings and any events of your choice that can be catered. Plus, they also host events on their own, which you keep up with on their website. Besides dining in person, you can also order online for takeout as an option and make reservations online or through calling.

Now I didn't know this before, but there are five dining rooms here, The Private Room, True River, The Sunset, and the South and West Decks. When I went, I ate out on the South Deck, which I believe is the spot to eat in the whole place as the views are incredible overlooking the Hudson River and Mid-Hudson Bridge. If you're looking for a night out with endless courses and great views, Shadows on the Hudson is the perfect place to try out!
