Bar Mutz (Italian - Westwood, New Jersey)
If you know, you know Bar Mutz is one of the most viral and trending restaurants in North Jersey. It is an Italian restaurant in Westwood that specializes in all things mozzarella, and its ambiance and menu items are anything but ordinary.
I visited with a friend recently, and we started with the 'Fig & Melon Cocktail.' It had figenza, Midori, burrata—yes, burrata—and lime. The drink was light and refreshing, and I think it's a great choice here. I couldn't really taste the burrata, but I liked the color, and the portion felt just right—not too little or too much.
In addition to the 'Fig & Melon,' we both tried the 'Sarti Spritz,' which is a special right now. Not only did it look super vibrant, but it also tasted magnificent, and this was honestly one of my favorite things I had when I was here. All I know is that this needs to be an official drink on the menu!
Whenever I eat out, I like to try as many courses as I can, and I always make sure to check out the appetizers. My friend and I ordered the 'Mozzarella Sticks Di Bar Mutz,' which are mozzarella sticks served with hot honey. The menu also mentioned sour milk, but I honestly didn’t notice that flavor. What I can say is that hot honey and mozzarella sticks are a perfect match, and I definitely recommend trying them!
For the entrees, my friend and I had the 'Spicy Rig' and 'Chicken Milanese Caesar.' The 'Spicy Rig' was a spicy rigatoni vodka with stracciatella, Sicilian oregano, and basil. This dish was the one I was the most excited to try, and it exceeded my expectations. Also, I have not eaten a rigatoni vodka that I did not like! The 'Chicken Milanese Caesar' was a Caesar salad-style version of chicken milanese with romaine lettuce and garlic croutons. This was simple, crispy, creamy, and was hitting the mark on flavor with every bite.
I made sure to save some room for dessert, and my friend and I decided to share the 'Italian Rainbow Cookie & Fior Di Latte Gelato.' The combination was a great mix of both flavors. The gelato was creamy and delicious, and the pieces of Italian Rainbow Cookie made it even better.
