Over the weekend, I tried out the Kurly Kurtosh Cafe in Nutley, and it was great. What makes this place so special and unique is that they are known solely for their chimney cakes, which is a Hungarian specialty. They are puff pastries, also known as kurtoskalacs, that are crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. And what's cool about chimney cakes is that you can eat them in so many ways, whether that is just the cake (in various flavors and glazes), with ice cream, or you can eat it with ice cream with the cake as the kone. They are definitely kurly and krazy goodness!
When I went to Kurly Kurtosh, I got the chimney cake with the ice cream on the side. I got my cake with the edible glaze, which was simple and delicious. For my ice cream, I got the salted caramel, which is a specialty flavor at the moment. The ice cream was amazing, and I think I could taste actual caramel in the ice cream, which was terrific. I got my ice cream with Nutella, which was a nice bonus. Plus, it came with a chocolate truffle on the side, and I got a salted caramel one, which was very delicious and perfect with the ice cream! On top of that, I had a blackberry and blueberry lemonade, which went perfectly with the cake and ice cream. The lemonade was very light, sweet, and refreshing, and had a great balanced flavor between the blueberries and blackberries. Besides lemonade, there is also coffee and water there.
In addition, customers can also order assortments, party platters, gift sets, and more. Some big orders require pre-ordering, so make sure to check the website to see which specific orders need pre-ordering. Pickup, delivery, and catering are all offered here, and gift cards can be bought and purchased for orders. Kurly Kurtosh creates an inviting environment through various events held at the store, such as birthday parties, private events, the Kurly Bash, a Kurly Ice Cream Social (which can be pre-ordered), the Kurly Klub Series, and so much more. Information on all these events can be found online on the website. The flavors change over time, which is something to consider when going, so if there is something that you want to try, then go ASAP because you might not get it if you wait too long. This place is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and is open Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 8 p.m. The owner, Nicole, is awesome, and creates a very inviting space for customers, and brings love and care through the chimney cakes. There is a reason why Yelp nominated Kurly Kurtosh as one of the top 50 places to eat in North Jersey back in 2023 because it is krazy good! The next time you are looking for something that is kooky and extraordinary, then you need to go to Kurly Kurtosh Cafe because it is worth it!
